Tips of Drilling Mud /Gas Separator Daily Maintenance

Mud/gas separator is specialized units used to process big amount of drilling mud with harmful gas such as H2S. These gas tends to be expand in atmospheric pressure. Traditional mud gas separator is installed between shale shaker and piping lines and specialized discharging gas piping line is always matched. Generally, mud / gas separator is installed after the piping liens and should satisfy the following requirement.

1/According to practical experiment, processing capacity by mud/gas separator should at least 5 times as design circulation capacity.

2/The inner diameter of drilling mud inlet should be bigger than the outlet piping lines.

3/Mud outlet diameter of the drilling mud should be bigger than the inlet piping lines diameter.

4/Drilling mud will directly discharge into feeding piping lines or mud storage tank

5/as discharge piping lines .should at last 200mm (8inch) or bigger.

6/Gas discharge piping lines should not install valve.

Daily maintenance of drilling fluids mud gas separator.

1/ Gas discharge piping lines must be long enough and fastened well.

2/ in low temperatures, if the mud gas separate is installed on the bottom of the cleaning valve, the valve should also be open in order that the mud gas separator will not be blocked and frozen.

3/ clean and maintain the mud gas separator under the instruction of the manual by the manufacturers.

4/ always pay attention to the gas discharge piping line and keep much enough mud is one very important factor.

5/ before the drilling mud get into mud gas separator, make sure that the balance valve has been closed between mud tanks.

6/ in order to guarantee the obfurag of drilling mud, desander and desilter are prohibited, and if it’s in great need, attention should be paid on the closeness of the drilling mud.
