The Importance of Gas-liquid Separator for Oil Drilling

Gas-liquid separator is the short name of drilling fluid and gas separator, is a special equipment of drilling gas-liquid separator for gas drilling fluid degassing.

The difference of gas-liquid separator and degasser is the ability to clear away the big air bubbles in the fluid. The big air bubbles is the gas expansion in borehole, diameter is 3~25mm. This big bubble cause well kick, even kick out of the rotary table surface.

The degasser is used for little bubble removal, not for big. The gas-liquid separator can inlet the fluid from rotary blowout preventer or from the choke manifold, to separate the big bubble. The drilling fluid has small bubble after disposed, after through the shale shaker, it pass into the degasser for gas removal.

Well kick happens when use low density drilling fluid. When drilling fluid flow up to the wellhead, the bubble expanded. So, when the drilling fluid with lots of down-hole drilling fluid into gas returns, the expanded gas bubble cause well kick.

When the gas drilling fluid into the degasser, it first hit a piece of steel plate, decrease the drilling fluid speed, prevent the wear harm of the separator. Then the drilling fluid flow to a series of internal baffle. Flow down to form a flocculant flow shape, to separate the gas and liquid. Free gas exhausted through the initiation of the gas outlet and the drilling fluid into the circulation tank.
