How to Process Mud to Meet the Needs of Drilling Operation?

To guarantee effective and safe drilling, drilling operations need certain amount of agents whose available content and ratio, especially that of anti-sloughing agents, should be well preserved, and adequate anti-high-temperature materials to avoid high temperature thickening or thinning and other agent failures, as well as larger amount of lubricating materials to keep frictional resistance within limits and to impart property characteristics needed for drilling fields.
Proper mud density is of high necessity since only it can well control formation pressures, maintain well bore stability and ensure successful electrical logging.
Notably, we can get our first crack at strict control of mud properties within limits rather than substantial adjustments and formation of fine, thin but strong cake rather instead of thick but fragile one by following the steps below:
1. Drill by low plastic viscosity, large yield point and yield point and plastic viscosity ratio well beyond 0.5mPa.s.
2. Make short trips, especially at the lower wall of slant hole interval, to not form cuttings bed.
3. Remove harmful solids from drilling fluids by quality mud purification equipment.
4. Maintain well bore stability with proper amount of asphalt additives.

Drilling Mud Solids Control Equipment

Shale shaker: The shale shaker is the first stage of solids control equipment in the fluids processing system,which removes cuttings with diameter above 75μm from the drilling fluids brought up from the wells.Afterwards,the treated fluids flow into the tank waiting to be processed again in the next stage of the system.
Vacuum degasser: vacuum degasser is a special-purpose device for the treatment of gas-cut drilling fluids.
Desander: Desander is the second stage of solids control equipment.It is mainly used to take away the solids with diameter ranging from 45 to 74 μm from the formerly treated fluids and then send them to the next stage for more purification.
Desilter: Desilter is the third stage of solids control equipment.In this case,the solids with diameter ranging from 15 to 44 μm are to be separated from the rest,which will go through further processing.
Mud cleaner: It is unity equipment of desander and desilter. Mud cleaner is the second or third stage separation equipment of drilling liquid,replacing desander and desilter, which will deal with the mud after being treated by the first grade separation equipment.
Decanter centrifuge: Decanter centrifuge is used in separating suspension of solid phase with particle diameter d≥2μm for drilling mud and fluids handling.
